Kitchen Scrubber Soap

by: Fields Landing Soap Factory

Ingredients:

Clear melt and pour soap base

Kitchen Lemon fragrance

Fresh Brewed Coffee fragrance (just a drop)

Ground Coffee

Directions:

Melt soap base.  Add fragrances.  Stir in the ground coffee a little at a time (stir constantly).  Keep stirring until it gets very cool and think.  Pour into mold.  The key to this recipe is making sure the soap has cooled so the coffee stays suspended in the finished bar.

Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey Scrub

Ingredients:

3 oz. opaque melt & pour soap

1 T. oatmeal (ground)

Vanilla, Almond, or Oatmeal, Milk & Honey scent (optional)

1 tsp. Honey (optional)

Directions:

Melt soap base.  Add honey and a few drops of scent - let it start to cool while you grind up 3/4 of the oatmeal in a coffee grinder until it is powdery.  Stir in the ground oatmeal a little at a time (stir constantly).  Keep stirring until it gets fairly cool, and then add in remaining oatmeal.  Keep stirring until it gets very cool and thick (almost like a sludge).  Pour into mold.  The key to this recipe is making sure the soap is pretty cool so the oatmeal stays suspended in the finished bar.

Peachy Almond Scrub

Ingredients:

1 lb. M&P base

2 T. Almonds (finely ground)

1 tsp. Peach fragrance

Peach or orange coloring

Almond essential oil (optional)

Directions:

Melt soap base.  Add a few drops of scent and coloring- let it start to cool while you grind up the almonds in a coffee grinder until it is powdery.  Stir in the ground almonds a little at a time (stir constantly).  Keep stirring until it gets fairly cool, and then add in the remaining almonds.  Keep stirring until it gets very cool and thick (almost like a sludge).  Pour into mold.  The key to this recipe is making sure the soap is pretty cool so the ground almonds stay suspended in the finished bar.

Goldfish-in-a-bag

Ingredients:

M&P soap base

Fragrance of your choice (bubblegum, strawberry, something kids will like)

Directions:

Rubber Duckie Soap

Orange Creamsicle Soap

Lavender Oatmeal Scrub

Ingredients:

4 ounces Clear Melt and Pour Soap

1 T.Old Fashioned Oatmeal (ground)

1/4 t. lavender colorant

Lavender fragrance

Lavender herbs (optional)

Directions:

Grind oatmeal with a coffee grinder into a very fine powder before starting the soap. Melt soap base.  Add colorant to hot soap, after somewhat cooled, add fragrance, ground oatmeal, and lavender herbs.  Stir to get the oatmeal and lavender herbs disbursed evenly.  Just before the soap is to set up, pour into your mold.  If done correctly the oatmeal and herbs will not float to the top but should float within the soap.

Soap Projects

Soap Petals

This project makes soap-covered rose petals.  You can use clear or colored opaque soap.  It makes a great gift.  One soap-covered petal will last a few washings.  Or, you can mix the rose petals in with potpourri for a nice, smelling decoration.

Materials List

Glycerin base, clear or opaque

Silk rose petals

Light Rose fragrance (or fragrance of your choice)

Color (optional)

bullet

Step 1:    Melt your soap according to the basic directions.  Add your fragrance (I usually use a “Light Rose” scent).  You may use a little color, but I use the natural color of the rose petal.

bullet

Step 2:    Once it has melted, dip the petal into the soap.  After dipping in the soap about 3-4 times, lay the petals on a sheet of wax paper.  The petals should completely dry within 2-3 hours and will have a light coat of soap.

Packaging ideas:  After soap has completely set up, you can either put them in a decorative jar or tie them up in a drawstring bag.

Cookie/Soap Cutters

1st idea

Materials:

Opaque Melt & Pour soap base

Fragrance

Color

Cookie sheet

Cookie cutters (small, medium, and/or large) – I purchased smaller ones from www.hollyhobby.com, or you can purchase cookie cutters at any craft or candy store.

Directions:

Melt the soap as you normally would.  Add fragrance and color if you want to.  Pour the base onto the cookie sheet.  If you want to be more creative, add color and swirl to give it a cool effect.  When the soap has hardened, pop it out of the cookie sheet and place on wax paper.  Use the cookie cutters to cut up the soap.  You can do anything you think of with this.

Ideas:

bullet

Easter – color with a nice pastel and use Easter cookie cutters.  I used small and medium bunny rabbit, chick, tulip, and cross cutters. (Picture coming soon!)

bullet

Saint Patrick’s Day – color with a cool Emerald green color and use a shamrock cookie cutter.  I used a small and medium shamrock cutter. (Picture coming soon!)

bullet

Valentine’s Day – color with red or pink and use small, medium, and large heart cookie cutters.  You can make smaller hearts and embed them into a larger heart mold.

bullet

Christmas – color with green or red and use small, medium, or large Christmas type cutters.  I haven’t tried this yet, but, I do have Christmas tree and candy cane small cutters.  You can also pour the white opaque soap and swirl in red coloring to get a cool peppermint effect.  Use peppermint fragrance or essential oil to make it smell like a candy cane.

Cookie/Soap Cutters

2nd Idea

Materials:

Opaque Melt & Pour soap base

Fragrance

Color (2 contrasting colors)

Flat bottom soap molds

Cookie cutters (small) – I purchased the small ones from www.hollyhobby.com

You can purchase cookie cutters at any craft or candy store.

Directions:

bullet

Step 1:    Melt the soap as you normally would.  Add fragrance and color if you want to.  Set the cookie cutter in a flat bottom soap mold.  Pour the base into the mold around the cookie cutter.  Leave the inside of the cutter unfilled.  Allow the soap to harden.  Once harden, remove the cutter from the soap.

bullet

Step 2:    Color a small amount of soap to contrast with the outer mold.  You want this color to be much darker than the outer mold.  Pour the soap into the empty cavity the cutter left.  Fill the cavity to the top and allow to harden.  When the soap has hardened, pop it out of the mold.

I have tried this once and it turned out awful.  This takes a lot of practice.  Make sure that you have a completely flat bottom mold.  Otherwise, you will have the two sets of soaps merging together.  I poured the outer portion first around the soap cutter.  The cutter filled in with soap.  After the soap harden, I removed the cutter (which is hard to remove – I suggest using petroleum jelly around the outside of the cutter).  That left me with an empty cavity where the cutter was.  I proceeded to pour the rest of the soap in the cutter.  I thought it was doing fine, until I unmolded the soap and noticed the cutter soap spread to the entire soap.  (Picture of what NOT to do - coming soon).

Layers of Color Bar or Loaf

Materials:

M&P soap base

Coloring (as many different colors as you want layers)

Fragrance

Directions:

bullet

Step 1:    Determine how many layers of color you want to create.

bullet

Step 2:    Melt, color, and scent you first layer of soap as you normally would.  After you pour the first layer, spritz it with alcohol.  The alcohol acts as a bonding agent for the other layers of soap.

bullet

Step 3:    Let first layer cool, approximately 4-5 minutes or until soap layer develops a "skin".  Do not let it completely cool or the layers will separate.

bullet

Step 4:    Melt, color, and scent your second layer.

Note:  You can alternate between clear and white soap to achieve desired effects.

bullet

Repeat the melt, color, scent, and pour procedures until bar is complete. Let cool completely before removing from mold. To release from mold, apply constant, even pressure with thumbs.
